2016-17 Developmental Hockey Program
For the beginner-intermediate level player, our Developmental Hockey Program provides an opportunity for Mite through Bantam-aged boys & girls to learn the game of hockey and develop their skills in a fun, relaxed environment, where sportsmanship, camaraderie, and education are emphasized over wins & losses.
*Full hockey equipment is required for participation in all of our developmental hockey programs*
*All participants will receive a jersey*
The Brewster Ice Arena has been recognized by USA Hockey as a model program for innovative player development. Both our Mite (Ages 6-8) and Squirt (Ages 9-10) Developmental Hockey Programs will utilize the American Developmental Model (ADM) philosophy of small-area drills and cross-ice games, designed to maximize player development, by increasing players' time with the puck, and improving reaction time.
The Fall/Winter Session runs from
Mid-September through late-March.
*Mites & Squirts get underway on
Monday, September 12th
Both levels feature two one-hour sessions per week, on one of our regulation-sized ice surfaces. A typical session consists of 30-40 minutes of skill development drills, followed by scrimmaging.
Mites (6-8): Mondays at 5:20pm (1/2 Ice) &
Squirts (9-10): Mondays at 5:20pm (1/2 Ice) &
These times will remain constant throughout the session.
14U Modified House League
Suitable for players aged
11-14, our co-ed 14U Modified House League is an affordable alternative to
travel hockey for the beginner-intermediate level player. There are no
tryouts, and no cuts. All who register will be placed on a team.
All players will first be evaluated by our hockey staff, then be
distributed fairly among the teams in the league, to avoid a situation
where any one team has a clear advantage over the others.
Teams will play 1 game per week & have 1 practice per week (Schedule TBA)
Preliminary evaluation skates will be held on
Wednesday, September 14th & 21st, at 5:30pm.
THERE IS NO CHECKING IN HOUSE LEAGUE GAMES
Teams will occasionally play games against teams from other rinks, such as Millbrook, Danbury, and Newburgh, necessitating light travel. Attendance at these games is strictly optional, and parents will be notified well in advance.
Parents who are experienced coaches and/or players are encouraged to participate in practices, to assist our professional coaching staff.
