Introduction
Our club is happy to have its home at Brewster Ice Arena.
The Club is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization sanctioned
by the Amateur Speedskating Union of the United States (ASU).
Everyone working for the club is a volunteer, including coaches,
officers, board members, and committee persons. All monies
collected from membership fees and ice fees are used to pay
for operating expenses and the rental of ice.
Purposes and Goals
- To promote the sport of short track ice speedskating for
all persons, regardless of age or ability.
- To help every individual achieve his/her personal goal
by teaching the necessary skills needed to participate at
a recreational level or competitively in speedskating events
at local, regional, national, and international levels.
- To instill respect and sportsmanship amongst the skaters.
Where and When We Skate
Our speedskating program is held at the Brewster Ice Arena
on Monday evenings during the months of October through March.
We devote 7:00 - 7:20 PM to stretching and dry-land training;
7:35 - 8:35PM is our on-ice session. Our program is set up
in such a way that you can enter it at any time during the
season.
Requirements
If you are new to the sport of speedskating and not sure if
this sport is for you, you may attend our sessions for two
or three times, skating on whatever skates you have. You will
be required to pay a per-session ice fee and sign a liability
waiver. If you are under age 18, you must bring a parent/guardian
to sign the waiver for you. If you decide to continue, we
will require that you become a member and that you make an
effort to purchase speedskates. It is NOT necessary that you
know how to speedskate, just that you are a somewhat proficient
skater. You MUST wear a helmet, long sleeves, long pants,
and gloves when attending the ice session.
Fees
Club members have the option of paying their ice fees in advance
for the entire season. Otherwise, ice fees are payable weekly.
Club members pay an annual membership fee; Individual and
Family fees are available.
Fiscal Year
Our fiscal year is June 1 to May 31. There is something going
on in our Club throughout the year. Here are some of the events
that you can choose to participate in: Club meetings, committees,
summer training/in-line skating, social gatherings, winter
lake/pond skating (weather permitting), and competitive skating
events sponsored by other clubs.
Speedskating Equipment
The two most important pieces of equipment that you need for
short track ice speedskating are your helmet and a pair of
speedskates. There are a lot of used speedskates in great
condition available. When you are ready to buy them, talk
to our coach first.
